Today is Neuroendocrine Tumors International Awareness day. Please
pass along this to your friends to let them know that this little
known, slow growing yet often tortuous disease is out there and like the
other better known cancers needs support
and funding to continue the battle. This disease is frequently
misdiagnosed and the patients suffer for that for years before correctly
identified and treatment is begun. For most, chemotherapy and radiation
doesn't work. Only surgery to excise the tumors and symptom control
currently offer any hope it is an insidious disease that has often
already metastasized to liver and bone and spinal cord before it is
diagnosed. Physicians aren't familiar will the disease and very few
specialists exist throughout the world. Please share this with others
for me. For more information google "NETS" and you'll find websites that
can give you more information and ways to help. Now it's time to get
off my soapbox and I'll leave you with one last thought because anyone
could be afflicted - "If you don't suspect it you can't detect it!"
